This program is an introductory course for clinicians on the insertion, care and maintenance of the Peripheral Inserted Central Catheter (PICC). The didactic component of this PICC workshop will address the terminology, advantages, disadvantages, indications, patient assessment and product selection, legal issues, and vascular anatomy and physiology review. The Modified Seldinger Insertion Technique (MST) will be emphasized. The care and maintenance of the PICC will be discussed along with the potential complications and strategies for its intervention and prevention. The practical component allows the participants to practice the placement of a PICC using the MST insertion technique on an anatomical model under the supervision of a qualified instructor.
