Peripheral Infusion Therapy: Principles and Practices |
Peripheral infusion is often viewed as simply sticking a vein to provide infusion therapy. The provision of peripheral infusion therapy is more than just venipuncture, it requires knowledge of patient assessment, vein anatomy and blood flow physiology, infection control principles, equipment/device selection, and management of complications. While peripheral infusion therapy has become an increasingly important element of patient care, many clinicians lack the knowledge and skills needed for positive patient outcome. This course will focus on the key elements of patient and vein assessment, venipuncture technique, recognition, management and prevention of complications. A practice session on an anatomical model will provide competency assessment of the participant's peripheral venipuncture technique. |
